What your Bermuda lawn needs, season by season.
Spring
- Transition out of winter rye: drop water on it in April so Bermuda retakes the lawn
- First Bermuda feeding at full green-up (April)
- Pre-emergent for spurge already working from February
- Deep-water to push roots ahead of summer
Summer
- Water deeply at 4–6 AM per district schedule — up to 3 inches/week in 110°F stretches
- Light monthly nitrogen plus chelated iron for alkalinity yellowing
- Monsoon armyworm scouting after every storm
- Mow Bermuda low and often; it thrives in heat if watered
Fall
- Late September: scalp, drop seed — perennial ryegrass overseed for winter color
- Water new overseed lightly 3–4 times daily until established
- Fall pre-emergent for winter weeds (skip where overseeding)
- Last Bermuda feeding by mid-September
Winter
- Mow and lightly feed the ryegrass — it grows all winter
- Water every 5–10 days; winter lawns need far less
- Watch rapid blight where irrigation water runs salty
- Plan the February pre-emergent
