For Ohio, Pennsylvania and Illinois lawns chasing the dark, dense, carpet look, bluegrass is still the standard. It spreads to heal its own bare spots — the thing fescue can't do. The price: patience at germination (2–4 weeks) and a bigger appetite for water and nitrogen.
