The one practical route to a centipede lawn from seed, and the seed is genuinely slow — plan on a season, not a month.
Fills a real gap and asks for real patience. Centipedegrass is the low-input choice across the Lower South — it wants less nitrogen and less mowing than Bermuda or St. Augustine, and it prefers acidic soil, which is why it does well on the sandy Coastal Plain. Two things set expectations. Centipede establishes slowly from seed compared with any cool-season grass, so bare ground stays vulnerable to weeds for weeks and a pre-emergent is off the table during establishment. And this is a seed-and-mulch blend, so most of the bag weight is coating rather than seed — judge the price against the seeding rate on the bag, not against a 5 lb bag of fescue. Seed into warm soil in late spring to early summer, keep it consistently moist, and do not push nitrogen at it afterwards; overfeeding centipede is the classic way to cause its decline.

Lawn Care Guides
When to overseed: late summer beats spring for cool-season lawns, most warm-season lawns should not be overseeded at all — and pre-emergent blocks your seed.

Grass Types
St. Augustine vs zoysia comes down to two questions: how much shade, and how much foot traffic. One tolerates each — and they are not the same grass.
