The bermudagrass version, and the reason it exists is that the cool-season bag would simply die in a southern summer.
Our Verdict
Same water-holding mulch idea, different grass — and the distinction matters more than most people assume. A sun and shade blend is fescue, ryegrass and bluegrass, none of which survives a Gulf Coast summer, so patching a bermuda lawn with the standard bag produces a patch that looks right in April and is gone by July. There is a second timing inversion to respect: warm-season seed goes down in late spring into summer, when the soil is genuinely warm, which is the opposite of the autumn window a cool-season lawn wants. Clemson's target for warm-season seeding in South Carolina is May 1 to 14. The honest caveat on any bermuda seeding is that seeded bermudagrass and the hybrid bermuda in many southern lawns are not the same plant, so a patch can knit in and still read as a slightly different texture and colour against the surrounding turf.
