Nutsedge Herbicide

SedgeHammer SedgeHammer Halosulfuron 75 WDG Review

★★★★★ 4.6/5 editor rating

Standard herbicides don't touch nutsedge. Halosulfuron kills yellow and purple nutsedge down to the tuber without injuring turf.

Our Verdict

If the 'grass' in question grows twice as fast as everything around it and has a triangular stem, this is the only homeowner product that reliably ends it. One packet handles most infestations.

✅ Pros

  • The homeowner standard for nutsedge — kills the tuber, not just the leaf
  • Safe on all major US turf types
  • No smell, tiny use rate
  • Also controls kyllinga and some broadleaf stragglers

⚠️ Cons

  • Slow: 2–3 weeks to full kill
  • Needs a non-ionic surfactant (sold separately) for best results
  • Reinfestations from deep tubers may need a second pass
