Our Verdict
Penn State separates the two Bti forms by area, and this is the one it names for the bigger job: granular Bti is effective for larger areas, such as backyard ponds. It is the same organism and the same strain as the dunk, formulated to spread rather than to sit. The label's rates are the practical difference — 1 teaspoon per 25 square feet of water or 1 tablespoon per 75 square feet for the small stuff, scaling to 4 ounces per 1,000 square feet of relatively clean water and 8 ounces per 1,000 square feet where the water carries more organic content. That last distinction is the sort of thing only a label tells you: dirtier water needs double, because the organic load competes for what the larvae eat. Its labelled sites are the container list — flower pots and saucers, rain barrels and other water storage containers, animal watering troughs, roof gutters. Buy this rather than the dunk when you have several small sites to treat at once or a pond, and buy the dunk when you want one thing to sit in one place for a month.

NOTE the percentages are NOT comparable with the dunk's 10.31%: the label itself states the percent active ingredient does not indicate product performance and potency measurements are not federally standardized. Rates: 1 teaspoon per 25 sq ft of water, 1 tablespoon per 75 sq ft, 4 oz per 1,000 sq ft for relatively clean water and 8 oz per 1,000 sq ft for water with greater organic content. STATE RESTRICTION on the label: 'In New York State, for use in containerized waters with no outflow to the natural environment.'
