Wheat and Oat Food Plot Weed Control: A Stage, Not a Date
A cereal plot reverses every rule from a clover plot. 2,4-D goes on-label, clethodim kills the crop, and one clause about legumes rules out most mixed plots.

Label read 2026-08-04 from Sanco Industries' own published PDF, which resolves the gap this record previously documented. EPA Reg. 89442-22-72838 — three parts, so it IS the distributor version of 89442-22 that our earlier note predicted; under FIFRA a distributor label may omit uses but never add them. Actives confirmed as printed: 2,4-D DMA salt 30.89% (2.38 lb ae/gal), MCPA DMA salt 8.23% (0.63 lb ae/gal), dicamba DMA salt 2.77% (0.22 lb ae/gal), HRAC Group 4. Signal word is WARNING, not the CAUTION most consumer three-ways carry. The restriction that matters most is a species one: apply only to DORMANT St. Augustine (common, Raleigh and Seville, grown in TX, LA and MS only) and DORMANT centipedegrass (TX, LA and MS only) — so this is off-label for those two grasses anywhere else, and off-label on them while actively growing even there. Also: do not spray on dichondra or where desirable clovers are present; carpetgrass takes spot treatment only above 80°F; spot rate is 4 fl oz per gallon of water; maximum 3.3 qt/acre per application and 6.6 qt/acre per year; reseed no sooner than 3–4 weeks; do not mow 1–2 days either side, no rain within 4 hours, delay irrigation 24 hours; aerial application prohibited. No state-specific restriction and no restricted-use classification appears on the label.
Where this page and the container disagree, the container wins — the label is the legal authority on rates and restrictions. How to read one yourself.

Ventana de aplicación: June through July, inside the same short window everything else happens in. There is no autumn second chance
Ventana de aplicación: Bounded by the label's temperature ceiling rather than the calendar — spring treatments finish before the June heat arrives, and nothing selective goes down again until September cools off
Ventana de aplicación: May–June and September; high-altitude sun makes stressed turf easy to injure, so spot-treat rather than blanket-spray
Ventana de aplicación: Broadleaf sprays in May–June and again in September, when the weeds are moving sugars to the roots; skip July and August, when a stressed cool-season lawn takes the injury and the weed does not
Ventana de aplicación: April to late May, then September into October. Skip July and August entirely: this is the transition zone, and a stressed tall fescue lawn takes the injury the weed shrugs off
Ventana de aplicación: March–May and October–November; avoid applications above 85°F
⚖️ Do not use this on a St. Augustine lawn in Florida. The label permits St. Augustine only when dormant and only in TX, LA and MS — Florida is not on that list, and St. Augustine is the state's dominant grass, so for most Florida lawns this product is off-label rather than merely risky.
Ventana de aplicación: Late April into June, then September into October; skip the July and early August heat, which is also when UI's own fertilizer schedule goes quiet
Ventana de aplicación: May–June and September; fall beats creeping charlie best
Ventana de aplicación: October is the most effective month for broadleaf weeds; never apply above 80°F or to drought-stressed turf
Ventana de aplicación: October, and October is most of it — but check the wind and the date against what is happening in the fields, because early-summer growth-regulator drift is a real seasonal risk here and your own spray carries the same way
Ventana de aplicación: April into May and again in September–October; avoid July and August, when a tall fescue lawn here is already at its limit
Ventana de aplicación: April–May and September–October; autumn is the knockout window for the wild garlic that defines a Kentucky winter lawn
Ventana de aplicación: March–May and October–November; avoid applications above 85°F and never on drought-stressed St. Augustine
⚖️ Louisiana is one of the three states where the label allows St. Augustine and centipedegrass at all — but only while fully dormant. On an actively growing St. Augustine lawn it is still off-label here.
Ventana de aplicación: June, then a narrow late-August to mid-September window. Maine's usable autumn is the shortest in New England
Ventana de aplicación: April–May and September–October; autumn is the knockout window for the ground ivy and violet the Piedmont is full of
Ventana de aplicación: A narrow autumn is the real window here: late September into October, after the summer heat and before New England's early frost closes the season
Ventana de aplicación: May–June and September; autumn is the stronger window for perennial broadleaf weeds
Ventana de aplicación: Late May–June and September; autumn is the stronger window for perennial broadleaf weeds
Ventana de aplicación: April–May and September–October; skip summer sprays on drought-stressed fescue
Ventana de aplicación: June, then late August into September. In a sub-100-day valley there is no third chance
Ventana de aplicación: Late spring and again from late August through September, when perennial broadleaf weeds are moving reserves to the root
Ventana de aplicación: Late May into June, then late August through September. The autumn window closes earlier here than anywhere else in southern New England
Ventana de aplicación: May and September–October; autumn is the knockout window for perennial broadleaf weeds
Ventana de aplicación: May and September–October; autumn is the knockout window for perennial broadleaf weeds
Ventana de aplicación: April–May and September–October; avoid spraying heat-stressed fescue in July–August
Ventana de aplicación: Early to mid-June, then late August into early September. There is no third opportunity
Ventana de aplicación: May–June and September; fall applications hit dandelion taproots hardest
Ventana de aplicación: Judged by wind before season: sustained wind is Oklahoma's normal condition, so the usable spray days are calm mornings in April, May and September rather than whole months
Ventana de aplicación: March–May and September–October; the long mild shoulder seasons give more usable spray days than most states get
Ventana de aplicación: May and September — fall is the knockout window for perennial broadleaf weeds
Ventana de aplicación: Broadleaf work in May–June and again in September; the September pass is the one that holds, because the weed is moving reserves down
Ventana de aplicación: April–May and September–October, and never above 90°F — centipedegrass is sensitive to 2,4-D both at spring green-up and in summer heat
⚖️ Centipedegrass is South Carolina's dominant lawn grass, and this label permits centipede only when dormant and only in TX, LA and MS. That makes it the wrong three-way for a typical South Carolina lawn.
Ventana de aplicación: Early to mid-June, then late August into September, which is the pass that actually holds on perennial broadleaf weeds
Ventana de aplicación: April–May and September–October; skip sprays on drought-stressed summer fescue
Ventana de aplicación: April–early June and September–October; avoid herbicides above 90°F
⚖️ Texas is one of the three states named on the label for St. Augustine and centipedegrass, and only while dormant. On bermudagrass the label is broader, and it allows up to 4 pints per acre where the bermuda is dormant.
Ventana de aplicación: May and September, avoiding the intense midsummer heat on the label
Ventana de aplicación: Late May through June, then a short late-August to mid-September window. Vermont's autumn window is the narrowest in New England
Ventana de aplicación: April–May and September–October; skip sprays on heat-stressed fescue in July and August
Ventana de aplicación: April–May and September–October; WSU caps applications at 80°F, stricter than the 85–90°F ceilings used elsewhere
Ventana de aplicación: April into May and again in September–October. Skip July and August: this is transition-zone country and a heat-stressed tall fescue lawn absorbs the injury the weed does not
Ventana de aplicación: Early to mid-fall is the favourable window for dandelion and other perennial broadleaf weeds
Ventana de aplicación: June, then late August into September. UW's own framing is useful: a slow-release application covers a 90 to 100 day growing season, which is roughly the entire Wyoming season

Product Reviews
There is no best weed killer for lawns, only the right one for your weed: the seven chemistries that matter, what each kills, and the one that kills grass too.

Weed Control
Killing dandelions without killing grass comes down to the taproot: the selective herbicides that reach it, and the month they actually work.
