Best Backpack Sprayer: The Pump Decides What You Can Spray
Piston pumps give pressure and are abraded by wettable powders. Diaphragm pumps take the powders and give less reach. Buy for the chemistry you actually own.

The reason to pay more is not comfort, it is consistency — a pump holding steady pressure applies an even rate, and an even rate is what makes a label rate meaningful.
Worth the premium for a specific reason most listings do not lead with. Hand pumping produces a pressure that rises and falls with your rhythm, and pressure changes droplet size and output — so the rate you calculated is not quite the rate you applied. An electric pump holds it, which matters most for the products where over- and under-application both cost you: selective herbicides and liquid fertiliser. Six nozzles and adjustable pressure to 90 PSI cover fan patterns for turf and a tighter cone for spot work. Two caveats. It is two to three times the price of a good manual unit, and it adds a battery to look after — a flat battery on a narrow application window is a real failure mode a hand pump does not have. Same dedication rule applies: one sprayer per chemistry, because herbicide residue does not rinse out.

NC State: constant pressure must be maintained for a consistent application rate. Both types can deliver it. The nozzle decides more than the pump does.

Weed Control
Grazing restrictions run from seven days to a year, and beef and dairy differ. UGA: without cultural practices, herbicide use will not be beneficial.

Lawn Care Guides
Painting dormant bermuda sounds like cheating. NC State's guidance suggests it can leave the lawn healthier than overseeding, because nothing competes in spring.

There is no best weed killer for lawns, only the right one for your weed: the seven chemistries that matter, what each kills, and the one that kills grass too.
