A robotic mower dock lives outdoors year-round with a machine parked in it, and shade plus rain cover is a reasonable way to extend the life of both. This is an open-front powder-coated shelter at 3×3 feet, which fits most docks, and at around $89 it is cheap relative to what it covers. Assembly is required and reviewers describe it as fiddly rather than difficult. Here is the important distinction, because it is the one a buyer is most likely to get wrong: this does not solve the risk UF/IFAS names. UF lists "lightning risk to docking stations," and the remedy the UF researcher gives is electrical — "grounding the docking stations or at least connecting them to surge protection." A metal cover over the dock does nothing for that, and arguably nothing good. Buy this for sun and rain. Handle lightning separately, with a properly grounded outdoor-rated circuit. UF's other dock warning — fire ant activity near electrical components — is also worth remembering, since a sheltered dock is a more attractive nesting site, not less.
