The smaller of the two Sun Joe dethatchers, and the one that suits the lawns that actually need dethatching — which, if you measure the thatch first, is fewer lawns than the category implies.
Our Verdict
A capable corded dethatcher for a small to medium lawn, with a narrower 12.6 inch path than its 15 inch sibling and a correspondingly lighter machine to push and store. The real question is whether you need one at all: Clemson notes a thatch layer up to half an inch benefits the lawn, so measure before buying. For a genuine thatch problem on a small lawn, buying is defensible; on a large one, renting a powered unit for an afternoon usually is not beaten.
