Our Verdict
This is the product the other triclopyr bottles on this site are made from, and reviewing it explains a confusion worth clearing up. EPA Reg. 81927-11 covers forests, grass pastures, rangeland, CRP acres, rights-of-way, non-crop areas, ornamental turf, industrial sites and non-irrigation ditch banks — a very wide label — with poison ivy, poison oak and kudzu all on its weed list. The Hi-Yield Triclopyr Ester bottle we also review is EPA Reg. 81927-11-7401: the same registration, same 61.6% ester, sold by a distributor that printed only the ornamental turf portion of this label. Same chemical, narrower printed label, and the printed label is the one that governs what you may legally do with the bottle in your hand. As a purchase: it is an ester at 61.6%, which is the class basal bark and flexible cut-stump work require, and its grazing statement is unusually permissive — except for lactating dairy animals, there are no grazing restrictions following application. The cost per acre is the lowest of any triclopyr here. The risk is proportional: at 61.6% a measuring error is a serious one, and esters move as vapour on warm days.
